Tardis
I am sitting in my favourite coffee shop with my new computer tablet, sketching ideas on how to make a Tardis bag with an expandable interior (because it’s bigger on the inside, yadda yadda).
I am a genuine nerd.

It's not always about shoes and style....
Off to volunteer at the NARAL pro-choice event today. Not feeling very fabulous after a night of broken sleep, but glad to be part of something big that I feel strongly about.

An Open Letter to Anyone Hiring a Seamstress
Regarding the post: Custom Dress Maker Wanted
Speaking as a seamstress/designer I just wanted to say that what she is asking for (a custom Oscar de la Renta style gown like the one pictured here for under $200 including materials) is very unreasonable. Let me explain:
First of all, not only are gowns difficult to make and fit, but the cost in fabric alone for a dress with a skirt like that would...

ego-assassin asked: I really like your thoughts about innovation in (shoe) design being its own sort of protection against knock-offs. There is a great TED talk from Johanna Blakely that expands on this idea. I think you might enjoy it. Check it out here: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/johanna_blakley_lessons_from_fashion_s_free_culture.html

The Sudden Appeal of Designer Shoes
For the first time in my life I am lusting after Designer shoes.
Even when I was studying fashion design in London, labels meant very little to me. I didn’t know much about brands except the one or two big designers I loved. But with my constant searching for new shoes to supply my Shoe Pr0n tumblr, I’ve found myself falling for more and more designer shoes.
For the past few seasons...

Sewing Sequins
There has been what my co-designer Jany rightly called a comedy of errors over the course of sewing this sequin dress. The latest of which involved my trusty Pfaff sewing machine:
When I moved to London, I brought my sewing machine with me. Despite the converter I used, it seems that when I plugged it in the first time I not only popped a switch in the fuse box (a whole other ridiculous debacle...

30 day challenge
I’ve been thinking about doing something like this, and recently a few people suggested I do a “shoe sketch a day” 30 day challenge.
Thoughts or suggestions on the matter?

Add Sketches?
I really need some advice.
By now I’ve probably forced you all to look at my design portfolio. It is obviously lacking in some areas, and until I have more shoes made and dresses sewn I feel I need to fill it out a bit more. One thing I’ve noticed a lot of designers doing is putting up a page of sketchbook work and rough ideas.
So here is where I need your advice. Do you think it...

Nearly A Shoe Commission
ARGH! Someone just tried to commission me to help them prototype a shoe design. Sadly I don’t have the facilities/tools to do it yet. Well shit, that sucks. I would have loved to get some practice and work with someone else.

Latex Opportunities
Last night, as I was working on a project with my friend Penny, we hit upon an idea that has me so excited I want to start it right now!!!
It looks like I might be doing some design work for her latex company soon, and we might be sharing a studio space as well. I can’t divulge all the secrets yet, but trust me when I say this would be a lot of fun, and an inventive use of rubber. I...

Red Shoes
I would like to share a poem about my red and purple shoes written by Roz Kaveney! She says, “I was looking again at the shoes you posted earlier and they reminded me of the Hans Christian Anderson story.” Thanks, Roz! This is the first piece of shoe-inspired fan art that I have ever received! ;)

Outside her door she found the cedar box locked with a silver key.The shoes...

Legs
One thing I’ve always wanted to do was design ornate, unusual artificial limbs for amputees. Aimee Mullins inspired me and I desperately want to design legs for her.

magiccabinet asked: Your Tumblr is awesome. I'm an artist that also has an insane passion for shoes but clearly attained the wrong educational degree before realizing it. It's great to see that you are starting from scratch and pulling through and sharing with everyone. I hope you go far!

Notes on Shoemaking part 4
Hello again! Sorry it’s been a while since I had some time to get to this final instalment of my Notes on Shoemaking. So let’s get on with it, shall we?
We left off last time having finished the insole boards. Once you’ve patterned, sewn, and made the insole boards, most of the hard work is done.
So the next step was lasting the shoes. Lasting is the process of stretching...

Mini store?
I want to design one or two simple items of clothing that I can easily produce/sell via etsy or some other means.
Leggings are easy, but any other suggestions/wants???
Update:
Current suggestions: screen printed Ts, casual tops, scarves, jumpers (not sure what that means, since it’s a word that can mean many items of clothing), leggings, basic skirts, wrap skirts.
