On a side note, I just submitted a project proposal for an Artist in Residence program I am *REALLY* excited about. I am crossing all my fingers and any toes that have that kind of flexibility.
If I got this it could change the direction of my art and expand my abilities and resources exponentially. This would be a huge step in my career, and more importantly tons of fun! I’d get to learn,...

Now I just need to do the fictitious name paperwork and place an notice in the paper… Then I’m officially the owner of my design company’s name! :)

10 Greatest Superhero Boots →
My friend Sonia writes a brilliant column about how comics should be good! A few weeks ago she posted a mini-article on her favorite superhero footwear and I have a feeling some of you might enjoy it. :)

Boo.
I just heard back from the awesome shoe job I wrote about last week, and unfortunately they decided they needed more of an office manager than an assistant designer. I think it’s a smart choice for them, but I’m more disappointed than I thought I would be.
I really like both of the designers/owners and I really like their style. It would have been a fantastic opportunity for me to...
Phone interview today for a freelance design gig. Not entirely sure what they want, so this will be an interview where I question them as much as they question me. Also interesting is the fact that I hate talking on the phone…

Emailing questions back and forth with a factory agent today. I’m getting genuine answers along with the sales pitch, and appreciating the information more than I can say. It looks like I might be able to prototype quickly, so I can shop the designs around and get some buyers. In theory. We’ll see. I might need to run a kickstarter to kickstart the prototypes I need to do a...

In 2013 I resolve to stop talking about wanting to do things, and actually do some of them.

jakemeier asked: let me know if you ever get into men's shoes. I only wear moon boots and moon mountain adventurer sneakers, and I think you know what I'm talking about cause you make them for ladies. Keep it up, you're talented.

New York ---> San Francisco
A lovely friend of mine recently told me that I should stop hiding all the behind-the-scenes stuff about my life and update this blog a little. I know it isn’t the tutorials you’re all hoping for, but here’s a general update:
I am leaving New York.
A number of factors have forced my hand here, but I can’t say I’m completely heartbroken about it.
My last job in the...

For years now I’ve been storing up an idea for a shoe that would require I team up with a talented digital 3d modeler. I just found that modeler.

thelittlegrunger asked: I know that it is a very expensive thing to do and learn, but it is something i really want to do. just saw your answer to another question, i would love it if you could do some tutorials.. share some of your knowledge! :D
thewannabedomesticgoddess asked: Hi there, I love your blog! I am actually very interested in creating shoes myself and I was wondering if you knew of any classes I could take in the New York area or any tools I would need to get started on my own. Also I think I speak for all of your fans when I say that I think that a tutorial would be a big hit on your tumblr! Thanks!
thelittlegrunger asked: I would absolutely love to do a course in shoe design and manufacture to go along with my Fashion Design course but the prices are ridiculously expensive, I found one course that lasted just a few weeks and it was close to £1000. it's crazy!
Anonymous asked: how do you plan the grading process when creating a whole new shoe line? By computer or drawing?

So.
I just stumbled across a fairly affordable (all things considered) class in shoe design that sounds like it might be exactly what I need to take my work to the experimental levels I so desperately want to explore.
It’s six months of intensive work, study, and internship in Europe which results in an impressive portfolio and a lot of useful experience. Also included: a trip to...

Interesting.
A couple interviewers have asked if I have my portfolio and resume on an ipad, stating they prefer that to printed books. Interesting trend, that.
Being a broke arteest I do not currently own an ipad. But I wonder if it’s worth trying to walk the walk just so I look a little more polished….?
It’s a long shot, but does anyone have a 1st or 2nd generation ipad...

Busy Busy Busy
I know I haven’t posted in a long time. Yes, work really has kept me *that* busy.
I’m in a cab on my way home having just left the office. Watching the lights of the city go by, I think about why I moved here. I didn’t mean to stay- it was just supposed to be a 3 month internship, yet here I am in my first New York summer (ewwww) working long hours and a few months into my...

In all modesty, I look at how I drew shoes a few months ago and look at my skill level now and even *I* am impressed. I’ve worked really hard and improved significantly. Go me!
